Kerala Water Authority caught in Vigilance net

Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance department on Wednesday found extensive irregularities in raids conducted at 48 offices of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) across the state.

In some of the offices, many employees were found to be on unauthorized absence when the raids started at 11 am. Several offices did not even have a trace of key mandatory documents such as attendance register, scrap register, personnel cash declaration register and casual leave register.

Anomalies were also found in providing new water connection. The Vigilance teams seized hundreds of applications lying unattended despite the right of service laws calling for strict adherence to deadlines. They also collected documents of contract work being allotted to 'favorite' contractors only.

Vigilance director Loknath Behera said unaccounted cash amounting to over Rs 20,000 was also recovered from different offices in Palakkad, Wayanad and Kollam districts. Most of the offices were not maintaining complaint books for the public.

It was also found that many of the overseers and work superintendents were not visiting the sites.

Officials said the raid report will be handed over to the state government soon.
