Kochi: Saritha S. Nair, who is one of the prime accused in the sensational solar scam, on Wednesday hailed the Kerala government's move to initiate a probe against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and some other Congress leaders for their alleged involvement in the scam.

An elated Saritha said she was given given justice, though delayed, by the government. She thanked chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for the decision, especially for ordering a probe into the allegations of sexual abuse she had raised against Chandy and others.

She said no women should be sexually abused by politicians again. Saritha also said ahe was ready to provide evidence against Chandy and others involved in the scam.

Saritha, in a letter dated 19, July 2013, had named Chandy, K.C. Venugopal, Aryadan Mohammed, Hibi Eden, Jose K mani and others as those who sought sexual favors from her.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the probe against Chandy at a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram after revealing the findings of the Justice (retd) Sivarajan Commission that probed the multi-crore scam. Pinarayi said the commission had found that Chandy and his former staff members, namely, Tenny Joppen, Jikkumon Jacob, gunman Salim Raj, and Delhi-based friend Kuruvila helped prime accused Saritha S. Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan and their company Team Solar help cheat clients.

Pinarayi said a criminal case would be registered against former home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan as the commission had found that he helped Chandy escape the case in his capacity as minister.

The scam came into the limelight after telephone conversations between staff of Chandy and prime accused Saritha Nair came up before the media.

The then CPM-led LDF opposition had launched a massive agitation, including a 30-hour siege of the secretariat, demanding Chandy's resignation as the scam took a political turn after two members of the chief minister's staff – Tenny Joppen and Jikkumon – were removed for their alleged links with Nair.

Under pressure from the opposition, the Chandy government had appointed the retired Kerala high court judge as the one-member commission to probe the scam on October 23, 2013.

The allegation was that Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan had duped several people of crores of rupees by offering solar panel solutions and canvassing business using high profile names, including that of Chandy.
