Kochi/Chennai: The revised railway timetable that came into effect on Wednesday is likely to reduce the running time of a few main trains that run through Kerala by 5-10 minutes.

The dates on which the two newly introduced trains, Kochuveli – Mangaluru Junction Antyodaya Express and Gandhidham – Tirunelveli Humsafar Express start service will be declared later. The commuters had demanded that a train with sleeper coaches be allowed instead of the Antyodaya train which has only general compartments.

Meanwhile, the Railways did not consider the passengers' request to reschedule the timings of the Thiruvananthapuram – Shornur Venad Express so as to reach Ernakulam before 10 in the morning. Instead, the service has been rescheduled to reach Ernakulam at 10.10 am from November 1 onwards.

New train allowed for Kerala

Mangauluru Junction- Kochuveli Antyodaya Bi Weekly Express which starts from Mangaluru on Fridays and Sundays at 8 pm and reaches Kochuveli at 9.15 am the next day.

On Saturdays and Mondays the train starts at 9.15 pm from Kochuveli and reaches Mangaluru at 8.15 am the next day.

Stops – Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shornur, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kayamkulam. The date on which the service begins will be declared later.

Services extended to Kerala

1. Chennai Central – Palani Express will be extended till Palakad via Pollachi from November 1 onwards. Newly introduced stops: Udumalaipettai, Pollachi junction and Palakkad Town.

2. Thiruvananthapuram – Palakkad Amritha Express is extended till Madurai. Newly introduced stops: Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul.

3. Chennai Egmore – Thiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express will run till Kollam and will be stopped at Varkala as well.

4. Tiruchendur – Palani Passenger train is extended till Palakkad via Pollachi.

Frequency extended

Kannur – Ernakulam Bi Weekly Express will be converted to Kannur – Alappuzha – Kannur daily service from February 1 onwards. Until then this train will be extended till Alappuzha from November 1 onwards.

Time saved

1. Chennai Egmore – Mangaluru Express: 1 hour

2. Puducherry – Mangaluru Express: 75 minutes

3. Thiruvananthapuram – Chennai Egmore: 20 minutes

4. Ernakulam Junction – Patna: 30 minutes

5. Ernakulam Junction – Okha Express: 20 minutes

6. Ernakulam Junction – Ajmer: 20 minutes

7. Thiruvananthapuram – Veraval Express: 10 minutes

Passenger trains

1. Kayamkulam – Ernakulam: 10 minutes

2. Ernakulam – Kayamkulam: 10 minutes

3. Ernakulam – Guruvayur: 10 minutes

4. Ernakulam – Palakkad: 20 minutes

Yasvantpur – Kochuveli weekly AC SF Express; Number and Time Changed

Bengaluru: According to the newly released railway timetable, the number of the Yasvantpur – Kochuveli Express has been changed from 16561/16562 to 22677/22678.

As per the rescheduled timings of the service, the train which starts at 12.50 pm on Fridays from Kochuveli (22678) will reach Yasvantpur at 4.15 am on the next day. The train will now reach about 25 minutes earlier than the previous schedule.

On Thursdays the train starts from Yasvantpur (22677) at 3.20 pm and reaches Kochuveli at 6.50 am on the next day. The changes are applicable from November 1 onwards.
