Kotttayam: Kottayam district is set to get 150 WiFi hotspots offering free Internet connectivity soon.
In order to implement the project, the district collectorate has identified and handed over a list of places that will have the facility to the IT Mission.
In the initial stage, BSNL will do a feasibility study at the places chosen and the final list will be forwarded to the IT Mission within a month.
After these procedures are over, the works to set up the hotspots will start. The project aims to offer WiFi facilities at public places providing Internet connectivity within a 60-meter range.
Users will get 300 MB of data for Internet usage. However, even after this limit is exhausted, one can unlimited access to e-governance services of government departments.
This is part of the state government's plan to set up Wi-Fi hotspots in more than 2,000 public places like government offices, bus stops, parks, tourist destinations, courts and public seva kendras. Later, the WiFi hotspots are likely to be linked with the proposed Kerala Fiber Optic Network (K-FON).
