Thodupuzha: Tensions between the CPM and the CPI, the major allies of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), is on the rise. The CPM Idukki district conference has said the CPI should be expelled from the front. At the same time, the CPI is understood to be readying a charge-sheet against the CPM in a bid to retaliate.
The debate on activity report at the CPM district conference as well as the group discussions later witnessed blatant criticism of the CPI. Those who attacked the party went to the extent of citing names of CPI leaders including its state secretary Kanam Rajendran. Delegates were unanimous in their opinion that it is better to expel the CPI and include the Kerala Congress-Mani (KC-M) group.
The CPM was also provoked by the CPI district secretary's response to the criticism in equal measure.
Even the chief minister, at the general discussion, blamed the revenue and forest departments, both held by the CPI, for land issues in the district.
The CPI district leadership has reached a conclusion that the CPM is plotting to destroy the partner. The CPI is determined to fiercely resist such moves. They will respond to the CPM at their district conference next month.
