At Aluva Manappuram, where thousands would flock to perform ‘Bali Tharpanam’, all arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the festival. About 150 booths have been readied on the banks of the Periyar River to conduct the rituals.

The Sreekanteswaram Mahadeva Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulathappan Temple in Ernakulam, Kalpathi Viswanathaswamy Temple in Palakkad, Sreekanteswara Temple in Kozhikode, Mammiyur Shiva Temple in Thrissur and the Shiva Temple in Kottarakkara are among some of the prominent temples where Mahashivratri rituals will be held today.

Manappuram is all set

The Aluva Manappuram turns into a sea of humanity on Mahashivratri, with tens of thousands from across the state visiting the Shiva Temple on banks of the Periyar River to pray for the departed souls.

The belief is that Lord Rama and brother Lakshmana had performed the last rites of bird king Jatayu on the banks of the river here. The manappuram is fully decked up in lights for the festival.

Arrangements for Bali Tharpanam are ready also at the Advaithashramam, founded by Sri Narayana Guru.

The festivities this year will be held in accordance with Green Protocol.

There will be traffic restrictions in Aluva town.
