Gauri suicide: principal welcomes accused teachers with cake-cutting ceremony, sacked Trinity Lyceum School shot into notoriety after a class 10 girl student allegedly committed suicide at the campus.

Kollam: Principal of the Trinity Lyceum School, that shot into notoriety after a class 10 girl student allegedly committed suicide, has been sacked.

The decision to sack principal Chevalier John comes after the school once again courted controversy when it welcomed back two teachers suspended for their role in the death of a class 10 student with a cake-cutting ceremony.

The teachers were suspended after Gauri Neha reportedly jumped off the third floor of the school building in 2017 over alleged harassment by the teachers. Fr Silvi Antony will replace Chevalier John as the principal of the school.

Besides, moves are afoot to cancel the NOC given by the education department to the school following the student's suicide. Deputy director of education, Kollam, KS Sreekala has sought the cancellation of the NOC in a letter to the director of public education and the child rights commission.

The move to cancel the NOC was also triggered by the school's decision to give a rousing welcome to the suspended teachers. Earlier, the deputy director of education had directed the management of the school to remove the principal.

However, the management refused to comply and instead alleged that the 'harassment' from the DEO's office has affected the principal's health.

However, the management's stand back-fired, with the education department taking its reply replete with counter allegations seriously. The recommendation seeks to cancels the school's NOC from next academic year.

The education department’s report said that the teachers of Trinity Lyceum had little social commitment and they did not impart quality education to students. This situation is dangerous for the society, it said.
