Job seekers from Kerala duped, beaten up by Malayali goons in Delhi

New Delhi: A group of nine job seekers, including four girls, from Kerala received a double blow when they reached the national capital. They realized that those who promised them jobs at Delhi airport had cheated them and before recovering from the shock, some goons hailing from Kerala attacked them.

The youngsters, belonging to Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram districts, had reached Delhi after completing an International Air Transport Association's (IATA) course in Kochi. Two Malayalis based in Delhi had promised them postings in the customer care section of Delhi airport on payment of Rs 1 lakh each. Though they handed over the amount demanded, the youngsters failed to secure the jobs. Following which, the group found an accommodation at Mahipalpuri in Delhi.

During their stay at Mahipalpuri, the youngsters were asked to attend interviews at several places by their Malayali contacts in Delhi. However, none of them received any placement. It was during this time that the gang comprising Malayali goons attacked the job seekers at their accommodation in Mahipalpuri.

The attackers told the youngsters that it was a rival gang that had collected money from them and asked them to point out the members of the other gang. When the assaults continued on the subsequent days, one of the job seekers contacted a relative, who was an officer with the CRPF in Delhi, and sought help. Soon, CRPF jawans under the officer and police arrived on the scene and rescued the youngsters.

Civil lines police have registered a case in connection with the attack and promised to arrest all the goons, said the job seekers. According to the police, two rival Malayali gangs operate fom Mahipalpuri. Named ‘Achayans’ and ‘Chathans’, the gang members often engage in clashes and are always on a high with alcohol and drugs.

The gang members who attacked the job seekers belong to Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts.
