Rishiraj Singh heading to Centre? Senior cop only Keralite on first list for director general posts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala excise commissioner Rishiraj Singh has found a place on the list of officers eligible for director-general posts at various Central agencies. His senior IPS peers Loknath Behera and Jacob Thomas do not find a place on the primary list.

Singh is the only IPS officer from the Kerala cadre who has been shortlisted by the central government for appointment as DG in central government agencies. He is listed as the fifth officer on the first list cleared by the Centre. It is from this list that the DGs of CRPF, BSF, IB, RAW, NIA and CBI are chosen.

Behera, the Kerala police chief, is at the fourth place on the second list prepared for appointments to posts that are equivalent to the DG post.

Interestingly, Jacob Thomas, another senior officer in the state cadre, does not figure on either list.

The 10 officers named on the first list are eligible to be appointed to the post of DG or equivalent position at the Centre, says the order.

The selected officers in the second list will also be considered for appointment as special secretary at the Centre or for any post that has been raised to the level of a DG.

Merit and seniority are considered while preparing the lists. The annual confidential reports for the entire service of the officers are also taken into account.

Singh seeks posting at Centre

Rishiraj Singh has already applied for deputation to the Centre. He was not considered to the DGP-level post of Vigilance director when Jacob Thomas was shifted out.

The job was given as an additional charge to state police chief Loknath Behera.

It is said Singh was not happy with the government decision, but had never expressed it in public.
