Thiruvananthapuram: Schools in Kerala will reopen on Friday, June 1, after the mid-summer vacation, but the government has decided that Saturday, June 2, will be a holiday.
An academic calendar for the new year was approved with 201 working days listed. Schools will function on eight Saturdays, when it will not be the sixth working day.
Meanwhile, a systemic intervention has been planned with the aim of achieving A Plus for all students in the SSLC exam. Special care will be given to students in each subject based on a model exam that is set for early February. Those found lacking in specific subjects will be given special training from February 15 to 28 to improve their performance in the SSLC examination.
Extra-curricular activities will be completed before December 31 so that focus could be given to preparing for the annual exams. Classes in January and February will focus only on the year-ending exam.
The state schools festival will be staged from December 5 to 9 in Alappuzha. School-level festivals will be held before that, in September. Sub-district festivals will run in October, while the district-level events will be held in November.
State-level science festival will be organised from November 9 to 11. Competition will be restricted for lower-primary schools at sub-district level and for upper-primary schools at the district-level. Only students in the high school and higher secondary will participate in the state event.
The state Sargothsavam has been scheduled for December 27-30.
Onam exams are set to begin on August 30. The Christmas exams are from December 12 to 20.
Annual exams for classes 1 to 9 will be held in the third week of February. Higher secondary and vocational higher secondary exams are planned for March 6 to 25.
