Palakkad: A mahout died here on Wednesday while trying to get an elephant disembark from a lorry. The elephant was brought for a temple festival. The incident happened near Melarkode market in Chittilanchery around 4 pm.
Devan, a native of Kunissery, died after being caught between the elephant and a metal rod placed on the lorry.
