Kozhikode: A private bus overturned after hitting a two-wheeler at Arayidathupalam here on Tuesday. Fifty four people were injured in the mishap, 42 of whom have been admitted to the Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) and 12 in the Government Medical College Hospital. One person, who was severely injured, has been admitted to the private hospital.
The bus, Liya Mol (KL 12 C 6676), plying on the medical college route, met with an accident around 4 pm. The bus en route to Mukkom tried to avoid colliding with a biker who had overtaken a car and veered into its path. The attempt to avoid the two-wheeler resulted in the vehicle crashing into the divider at the Medical College end of the Eranhipalam flyover.
But the bus hit the two-wheel rider, who suffered severe injuries and underwent surgery at the BMH. Fire Force and police personnel lifted the upturned bus using a crane and removed it from the accident scene.
Traffic through the flyover has been reinstated.
