Santok Singh BumrahAhmedabad: Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah's septuagenarian grandfather Santok Singh -- reported missing for two days -- was found dead here on Sunday.
Ahmedabad police found the body near Dadhichi bridge in Sabarati River.
Santok Singh, aged 75, was missing after he travelled to Ahmedabad from Uttarakhand to meet his cricketer grandson. The family said it was his last wish to meet Jasprit and bless him before he breathed his last.
A local TV channel said Santok Singh had alleged that Jasprit was not home when he went to meet him and that the cricketer's mother didn't let him meet him later on. He was missing ever since.
Bumrah is on national duty and taking part in the first one-dayer against Sri Lanka at Dharamsala.
According to a report in a leading national daily, the complaint stated that Singh had come to his daughter's residence at Vastrapur on December 1. "He expressed a wish to meet his grandson on his birthday on December 5. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to meet Jasprit. On December 8, Santokh called his son Balvinder Singh, who lives in Jharkhand, and told him that he was leaving to meet his deceased wife," the complaint stated.
Santokh Singh, once a successful businessman, was driving an autorickshaw in Kiccha village of Uttarakhand . "After the death of Jasprit's dad, the businesses allegedly went downhill and Santokh sold off the business and settled in Uttarakhand,” said police.
