Bengaluru: The police have registered a case against the son of Congress MLA N A Haris and 10 of his supporters for allegedly attacking a youth at a restaurant and later at a hospital where the victim was taken for treatment.
The FIR names Youth Congress general secretary Mohammed Haris Nalapad and 10 others for the alleged violence in UB City of Bengaluru.
G Parameshwara, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, later informed the media that Mohammed has been suspended from the party for six years.
The party leader has also been accused of threatening the victim, identified as Vidyut, at a hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
Mohammed was elected Youth Congress general secretary in May, 2017. He is also the executive director of the Nalapad Group of Companies.
The police are reportedly questioning the restaurant owner and other people who were there at the time of the incident.
In 2016, Mohammed's brother Umar was accused of assaulting a man outside a pub in Shantinagar area of Bengaluru. Reports said that the police had refused to file an FIR in the case. The pub owner was quoted in reports as saying that Umar was not involved in the incident.
