New Delhi: Popular young actress Emma Watson has tweeted in support of Deepika Singh Rajawat, the lawyer representing the family of the girl who was raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua.
"All power to Deepika Singh Rajawat," tweeted the Harry Potter actress while reacting to a Buzzfeed photo article on the lawyer. The British actor has been a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and she has actively dedicated her efforts towards the empowerment of young women.
Rajawat had claimed that she received death threats, including lawyers from the Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association, for representing the case.
The rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl from the Bakarwal tribe of Jammu and Kashmir had sparked widespread outrage in the country and across the world. Many including the IMF chief Christine Lagarde had called upon the Indian authorities to secure the women in the country.
The little girl was reportedly held captive inside a temple and was sedated before being raped, tortured and murdered.
The case is ongoing in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Rajawat has been in defiance against her own colleagues in the Jammu Bar Association who allegedly warned her against taking up the case.
