The accused subjected the survivor to continuous sexual abuse for years. He also has two other similar cases registered against him at the Padinjarethara police station.
In his plea, Gandhi will ask the sessions court to set aside the magistrate's order convicting him and also will request for an interim stay on the conviction, until the matter is disposed of, said reports.
As per the complaint, the woman was subject to cruel sexual assaults between the period from 2010 and 2015.
The convict was identified as Shilpi (27) of Akashbhavan in Paruthippara colony.
The crime came to light when another girl, aged 11 years, complained to her mother that the accused was inappropriately touching her. The trial is on in that case.
The Fast Track Special Court also sentenced the youth to three years for sexual assault under the POCSO Act and one year for house trespass under the IPC, respectively.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.55 lakh on the convict and directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay the victim an additional Rs 1 lakh for her rehabilitation.
