What earlier triggered the controversy was the decision of Nandini, the country’s second-largest cooperative milk brand, to further expand its presence in neighbouring Kerala.
In an apparent reference to the recent entry of milk and other dairy products of popular Karnataka brand Nandini into Kerala, Milma Chairman K S Mani said that despite such challenges the Kerala-based company was able to record a remarkable growth in sales.
Karnataka Milk Marketing Federation 'aims is to supply deficit milk of two-and-half lakh litres to Kerala market, not compete with Milma.
Earlier when Kerala had a milk shortage, Nandini milk was sold in Kerala with permission of Karnataka government and back then its rates were not low.
The Kerala government will also raise a complaint to the National Dairy Development Board on the matter.
Milma had announced the hike on the day it launched a brand revamp programme called 'Repositioning Milma'.
The price of blue packets, which is the most consumed version in the state, will however remain the same.

A 500 ml pack of homogenized toned milk which costed Rs 23 at Milma outlets will now be sold for Rs 26.
