As many as 18 lakh card holders may not be able to get their Onam food kits as the portability system that enabled people to get rations from any PDS shops near them does not apply to the Onam kit.
The State Public Distribution Department has invited applications after including most ration shops in the reservation category.
As the State declared a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday, the ration shops remained closed for an additional day.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G R Anil will chair a final review meeting in this regard this week.
