According to VACB officials, Rs 42,000 was recovered from the jeep of Thrissur Range Circle Inspector Ashok Kumar, while Rs 32,000 was seized from the office premises.
T O Mohanan, a Congress leader, also filed a complaint with the Vigilance regarding the case, and his statement was recorded as part of the investigation.
The probe will look into whether the panchayat distributed the old stock or if the available food items were shifted.
The decision for a thorough probe follows reports of irregularities in the company, brought to light by Malayala Manorama.
Along with the ADGP, the Vigilance will also probe charges against suspended SP S Sujith Das.
Veteran Congress leader Raju Kattakkayam is being investigated by Vigilance.
The bribe was related to the construction of a canal in the Alagappanagar Panchayat.
