A mob of agitators belonging to the Anti-Vizhinjam Port Committee surrounded the police station demanding the release of five individuals in custody over the violence that broke out on Saturday.
The FIR drawn up by the Vizhinjam police shows Archbishop Fr Thomas J Netto himself as the first accused. The Auxiliary Bishop, Fr Christudas Rajappan, is the second accused and the convenor of the agitation Fr Eugene Pereira is the third.
Around 96 individuals have been named accused in the case. Sections charged include attempt to murder, conspiracy, unlawful assembly, incitement to violence etc.
While nine cases have been registered against the protest council opposing the mega project, one FIR has been filed against the people's collective that supports it.
The fisherfolk have been protesting against the construction of Adani Port in Vizhinjam from August, this year.
Adani, during the hearing, told the court that its order to provide police protection for the construction work was not implemented.
CPM district secretary Anavur Nagappan and BJP district president V V Rajesh stood shoulder to shoulder at the culmination of the Long March taken out by the Vizhinjam Port Local Collective.
Fishers of Vizhinjam, led by the Latic Catholic Archdioces, are protesting against the port developed by the Adani Group.
The government is unwilling to concede more than four of the seven demands raised by the fisherfolk.
The 100th day will perhaps witness the largest gathering of agitating fisherfolk on land and sea at two points along the Thiruvananthapuram coast; at Vizhinjam and Muthalapozhi, both 40 kilometres apart.
