Unreserved general coaches will be restored in more long-distance trains, operating services via Kerala.
Kerala earned the distinction of a State having a fully electrified double track with the opening of the second line connecting two stations on either side of the Kottayam railway station.
The Railways had so far cited the Chingavanam-Ettumanoor single track as the main obstacle for smooth operations and the introduction of new trains.
The authorities hope to conduct the first service along the new track by 5.30 pm on May 29.
The decision was taken by the Railways keeping in mind the difficulties to be countered by passengers in the event of a full cancellation of the train service.
Trains which have not been cancelled will conduct service along Alappuzha.
The incident occurred between Punkunnam and Thrissur railway stations.

The restrictions include total cancellation of 21 trains, including popular services such as Island Express, Parasuram Express, Jan Shatabdi Express and Venad Express, on various days from May 20.
