In a Facebook post the veteran CPM leader said the old car which needed frequent repairs was being replaced. He also refuted reports that the premium vehicle with security features would be purchased in view of the threats he had been facing.
The minister said though the state is going through a financial crisis, essential matters cannot be ignored.
According to the Government Order (GO), the money was allotted taking into account the health issues faced by Jayarajan.
Senior leader P Jayarajan met Kunhikrishnan on Monday and held conciliatory talks, but the latter was firm that he would not change his decision to leave public life after being shunted out as area secretary.
Jayarajan's move was unexpected, and neither him nor the party denied the news of the Kannur leader voicing his opinion at the state committee meeting.
The minister initiated the action taking cognizance of a report published by Malayala Manorama the other day which brought the issue to light.
