AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge met with both Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar. According to party sources, the announcement is likely to be made in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Kharge has held discussions with party leaders from Karnataka and the 3 observers appointed by him to oversee the Congress Legislature Party meeting in Bengaluru on Sunday.
While Siddaramaiah continues his stay in Delhi, the other front-runner to the CM post, DK Shivakumar, will reach the Capital today.
Congress staged a stupendous victory in May 10 elections, winning 135 out of a total of 224 seats.
Sources said the observers will be handing over their report to Kharge by Monday.
Party high command will take a final decision after seeking opinions of newly elected MLAs at meeting to be held in Bengaluru.
The main race for top post is between Siddaramaiah, who served as Chief Minister from 2013 to 2018, and Congress state unit President D K Shivakumar.
