Kuttanad: Sijo Varghese Thekkedam, a native of Edathua, has been grabbing attention for his penchant for keeping the ‘history’ of iconic boat races in the state.

He keeps track of the history and the significant events that are associated with the Moolam boat race, the Aranmula boat race and the Nehru Trophy boat race. Sijo has in his collection newspaper reports related to the Nehru trophy boat race from 1952 onwards. Besides, he collects newspaper reports and pictures from the Moolam boat race and the Aranmula boat race too.

A civil engineer, Sijo mostly relies on social media groups that share information related to boat races, noted personalities in this field and the public library to increase his collection.

Now, he is all set to share these details with the general public via online platforms. Moreover, he is also the skipper of a boat that takes part in the race.

Sijo was the captain of the St. George snake boat when it won the trophy in 2019 at Neerettupuram. Interestingly, his father owns shares in this boat. He would be captaining a boat for the eighth time this year.
