Antony Thomas Antony Thomas will take over as CIO, Nissan: File photo

Keralaite Anthony Thomas, group chief information officer (CIO), GE global, is taking over as group CIO of Japanese vehicle manufacturer Nissan, the company announced on Thursday.

Thomas will assume office on October 23 and he will be based in Nissan's headquarters in Yokohama.

At Nissan Motors, Tony will lead Information Technology and Information Systems and drive digital transformation for Nissan Motors.

Tony, as he is known among peers, will report to Nissan chief executive officer Hiroto Saikawa.

"This is an exciting time in the auto industry with Nissan leading innovation on many fronts. It is an honor to be part of such an iconic organization at this time," Tony told Onmanorama.

Prior to GE, Tony was responsible for managing the entire IT estate for all Vodafone India businesses. Tony belongs to Parinthirickal, an ancient Syrian Catholic family from Mutholy, Pala.

Tony is also a member of the high power committee on Information Technology constituted to advise Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

He had also held leadership roles in Citi and Ernst & Young. After schooling in Pala and Kanjirapally, he completed his O'Level and A' Level from the University of London.

Tony completed his electrical and electronics engineering from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET), in 1991. Though most of his career he was based out of Princeton, New Jersey, Tony has managed teams across the globe.

Tony is a founding member of CIO Angel Network (CAN) and is also associated with Indian Angel Network (IAN). He is also a core member of Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Committee on Mobile Banking and serves the CII National Committee on IT, ITeS & eCommerce, ASSOCHAM National Council on IT/ ITeS, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

He has been honoured with many industry awards for innovation and technology, including as a PowerProfile by LinkedIn.
