Valentine’s Day vibes at LBS

February 14 of every year is special for the ‘love birds’. And it is even more special when it is marked when one is in the teens and in college, no matter whether you call yourself ‘single’ or ‘committed’.
The students of LBS College, Kasaragod, had a great time when the College Union hosted a 'pranaya gana malsaram' (romantic song competition) and 'thall malasaram' (liar competition) on Valentine’s Day. Although these were contests, they humorous performance by the contestants offered great entertainment.
Anashwara, a third-year student, won the romantic song competition, and Ramees, a first-year student, won 'thall malsaram'.
The romantic songs of the contestants were lapped by the students. Most of the songs were from semi-classic Malayalam hits. Mahesh, a final-year mechanical engineering student, enthralled the audience with a folk song. Shihabudeen, a final-year computer science student, sang ‘Karale karlinte karale’, a famous song from hit Malayalam movie ‘Udayanan Thaaram’. Some singers dedicated their song to their partner and some for the audience itself.

Many participants also shared their expectations for ‘future wife/partner’. The candid statememts often resulted in guffaws among the audience. Most of them were at the fag end of their college life.
The programme started at 12.30 at lunch break in the amphitheatre situated at the administrative block of the campus. It wounded up at 1:4 pm and the students returned to the classes. They were from different branches of different semesters participated. The timing of first year students was changed so that they could take part.
The College Union set up a confession wall as well as a letter box inside the campus on the occasion. It also provided students an opportunity to dedicate a song to someone. It will be played during the matches of V.R.R.R Super Cup football tournament currently on the campus.
