CSIR-UGC NET: Exam to be held in June; apply by April 10

The National Eligibility Test (NET), jointly conducted by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship/ Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges, will be held on June 6, 7 and 8. Interested candidates can register till April 10.

The Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode examination is held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Eligibility

Candidates must hold an MSC/ four-year B Ed or equivalent degree, integrated BS-MS, B Tech, B Pharma, or an MBBS with at least 55% to be eligible. Candidates who are in the final year of their post-graduation or other qualification courses can also register. Those who have enrolled for the integrated MSc/PhD course too will be considered. The candidates belonging to the Transgender/ Differently Abled/ Scheduled Caste & Tribe categories need to obtain only 50% marks.

The age of those appearing for the NET JRF shouldn’t exceed 28 years, as on July one, 2022. However, the same is 33 years for women and those belonging to the Transgender/ Differently Abled/SC-SCT categories. The age limit for Other Backward Class candidates is 31 years.

There is no age bar for the Lectureship profession. Candidates can apply for JRF or Lectureship individually too. However, persons with certain qualifications can apply only for JRF. Those having JRF qualification will be considered for Lectureship too.

Application

Interested candidates can register themselves on the website www.csirnet.nta.nic.in till 5 pm on April 10. The application fee of Rs 1100 can be remitted online till 11 pm on that day. However, the fee for Backward/Economically Backward category students is only Rs 550, and that for Transgender/ SC-ST category candidates Rs 275. Those belonging to the Differently Abled category need not pay fees. One person can submit only one application.

NET Exam pattern

CSIR NET examination will include tests in five Science branches—Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

The three-hour long computer-based multiple-choice objective-type examination will be held on June 6,7 and 8. There will be three parts – Part A, B, C. Part A is common for all subjects, whereas Part B will have subject-specific questions. Part C will also be subject-specific, but the questions will be in-depth analysis ones.

There will be negative marks for wrong answers with regard to certain questions. Candidates can obtain the exam syllabus, scheme, and model questions & answers from the website www.csirhrdg.res.in.

The successful candidates will receive Rs 31,000 monthly stipend for the first two years, besides Rs 20,000 annual contingency grant for the first two years. Those having Ph.D. registration will receive Rs 35,000 as stipend from the third year onwards.

Exam centers are there in all districts in Kerala, except Wayanad. The Ph.D. registration certificate is valid for two years. For lectureship, there is no time limit for the certificate received through the exam. The candidates, though, should meet other eligibility criteria for the appointment. The only objective of the Test is to determine the eligibility of candidates to become lecturers or researchers with fellowships. The candidates themselves have to find out the opportunities.
