The elephants are feasting on the ample greens and water available at their current abode.Palakkad: Two wild elephants that strayed into human habitat areas in Mundur are keeping the government authorities on their toes as the animals have managed to stay put on a leafy bar in the Bharathapuzha river since Friday morning.
The personnel of revenue, wildlife and fire brigade are trailing the tuskers lounging on the river bar at Meetna, near Ottapalam.
The animals had passed human settlements en route. The pachyderms, which had set out of the forest two days ago, reportedly damaged a few houses while they were proceeding through Puthanur, Mucheeri and Kalloor areas.
They had crossed Bharatapuzha and the National Highway before reaching Meetna. The elephants are feasting on the ample greens and water available at their current abode.
Forest authorities say the tuskers are following the same trail that another herd had taken while they had come out of the Dhoni Hills in Malampuzha last September. It was believed that one of the two elephants found on Friday was in fact the largest tusker that was spotted in the herd last year.
The wildlife officials camping at Meetna have warned that the elephants are showing signs of aggression.
