The wink by Priya Prakash Varrier in the upcoming film Oru Adaar Love has become the stuff of headlines and memes across the world. Vineet Sreenivasan's voice, Priya and Roshan Abdul Rahoof's expressions, Shan Rahman's music and Omar Lulu direction all have helped the song become popular in no time.
However, after the song broke the Internet and had its share of controversies when cases were filed against it, another row has hit the film. It is alleged that the wink scene is a lift from a similar sequence from Malayalam film 'Kidu'.
Directed by Majeed Abu featuring newcomers Anakha and Ramzan, the shooting of Kidu was completed a few months ago. A scene in a song from the film that is quite similar to the one in Oru Adaar Love is doing the rounds of social media. The DI video clip of the film also has a similar Malappuarm background and is sung by Vineeth Srinivasan.
Initially, when the clip was out, there were criticism that it was a copy of Oru Adaar Love, forcing Kidu producer Sabu PK to clear the air.
"After seeing our clip several people are saying that it is a copy of Oru Adaar Love. It is not correct. I will tell you why. The editor of my film and Oru Adaar Love is the same person. Kidu shoot was over on November 25 and editing was over in January. The editor joined the Oru Adaar Love team after this. The song sequence was also shot after this. Actually, we have to say that they copied us. But we are not doing that since we are not interested in going after controversies. Why make a big issue out of a small sequence from a song? There could be some similarities in some parts of the films. Even life is like that," Sabu said.
Kidu tells the story of four Plus-2 students who are friends. It is a light-hearted take on their crush with a teacher.
