The fun-filled narrative pitches on the travails of Joy Thakkolkaran (Jayasurya), an entrepreneur, who carves his path to success by sheer hard work and perseverance. After some high-voltage releases, if there is scope for a feel-good movie, Punyalan Private Limited is the title you would be seeking.
An aspiring entrepreneur's tryst with destiny and his umpteen stand-offs with the system finally catapults him to celeb status. As a crusader, the political apparatus takes note of him and the CM himself makes him an “offer which he can't refuse”.
The plot revolves around how that becomes a memorable day to do some political or systemic cleansing.
A systemic cleansing is what the aspiring entrepreneur Joy Thakkolkaran (Jayasurya) is attempting along with his bunch of friends.
The backdrop of this attempt is mainly due to attaching of his earlier venture, which only justifies this sequel, but not the plot.
The entrepreneur and his small world of friends, including an advocate who is required to bail the protagonist, do not hesitate to charm their way to bringing out a new product – a mineral water in tetra pack.
The catch is that it is processed from the urine of elephants. We need not move heaven and earth to digest this -- just leave it at that as the script also doesn't make any effort to justify that.
But as umpteen twists and turns in this wannabe entrepreneur, who is also a failure in his first venture, takes him to the political spotlight as he refuses to go the prison rather than furnishing his bail amount.
The reason is again a protest against the system that has failed him. We need not ask again how the system failed him, but fate has it that his open challenge to the CM finds a taker in the highest office in the state itself – the chief minister's office.
It is only imperative that the CMO makes him an offer which he can't refuse – a day with the CM.
Now, if we have seen this in Muthalvan, just think it was years ago. And if we have witnessed the travails of an aspiring entrepreneur in classics such as 'Varavelppu', it doesn't matter.
The narrative has been made with a conscious purpose of lacing it with all key developments including demonetization, GST and women's safety.
These disparate elements are taken up by the protagonist in his day of reckoning prompting a deluge of support from social media.
Punyalan is a feel-god movie which will give you a ray of hope in politically troubled times.
It also packages Thrissur with an element of nostalgia as a lingering sub-plot.
It is a simple movie without a cohesive plot. If you do not want to split your hair much, Punyalan can be an okay choice.
