Biju Menon plays the lead role in RosapooFor an unlucky fellow who hails from Kochi when the business is on a downhill, what would be the easiest way to make a quick buck? Well, for director Vinu Joseph's Shajahan and his cronies, the answer is making an adult movie.
Rosapoo is a black comedy which revolves around Shajahan aka Shanu (Biju Menon) who finds himself in a spot after his fortunes takes a tumble and tries hard to meet daily expenditures and settle huge debts. Shanu takes up odd jobs to make both ends meet but to no avail and that’s when Ambrose (Neeraj Madhav), his equally aimless buddy, a cable channel employee who aspires to make it big as a director one day, strikes upon the idea of making an adult film. Their dream now is to produce a movie with Laila, who is an actress with an attractive persona, for which they move to Chennai.
Popular South Indian actress Anjali is seen essaying the role of Rashmi in Rosapoo. The movie marks her comeback to Mollywood after a brief break. Her first film in Malayalam was Payyans. Soubin Shahir is back to entertain the audience with his impeccable comic timing. The actor essays a character named Sajeer in the movie. Veteran actor Vijayaraghavan appears as a money lender and Alencier Lopez as his assistant. Sudheer Karamana, a Gulf returnee, lends money for making the movie. The film also marks the entry of Kannada actress Shilpa Manjunath into Mollywood. The actors are seen trying hard to perform their characters well.
Sushin Syam who shot to fame with his works in movies like The Great Father, Ezra, Villain etc., has handled the music department of the movie very well. 'Mutta Paatu' sung by Jassie Gift will attract the audience for its offbeat appeal which comes when Shajahan and his bosom buddies flirt with the idea of egg business, one of the many ill-advised ventures they try their luck at.
The weak screenplay and pedestrian cinematography badly affected the whole film. The first half of the movie is engaging when the characters go about their business in witty ways. But it offers nothing refreshing and there are no gripping scenes to keep the audience entertained.
