Unni Mukundan in film 'Ira''Ira' is a suspense thriller with twists and turns that will keep you engaged in solving the murder mystery. However, you cannot help noticing the importance of the timing of its release.
The movie described as 'story of an accused' goes on to capitalize on the actress assault case and the arrest of Dileep, just the way 'Ramaleela' did it. The trial in the actress assault case began on March 14 this year.
The first half enthrals Dileep fans with dialogue exactly matching what Dileep said mocking the media in real life. In fact, at that moment the few fans in theatre chant 'Dileepettan ki Jai'.
The makers, 'Pulimurugan' director Vysakh and writer Unnikrishna, had revealed this part of the plot in a teaser even before the release of the film. It comes as no surprise as Vysakh was among the first few within the industry to come out in support of Dileep after the arrest.
The second half briefly takes us to the forests in Attapady and shows the plight of the tribals without engaging deeply into it. This is also significant with the times as a hungry tribal, Madhu, was recently lynched by a mob over stealing food.
The action thriller binds all these real life issues well within a murder investigation plot.
Actors Unni Mukundan and Gokul Suresh performs one of their career best roles. Though Unni's role as Rajiv, a cop, is clearly established as the hero with the background scores and action scenes, Gokul as Dr Aryan too plays a pivotal role in a story which revolves around the mystery behind the murder of forest minister Chandy, played by Alencier.
Music by Gopi Sundar is soothing to the ears and the cinematography by Sudheer Surendran comfortably captures nature's beauty, the action and the drama.
Overall, Saiju SS, who has worked as associate director with Vysakh in several films and has experience of working with all important production houses in Malayalam, does a well-knitted job in his debut as a director.
Actors Lena, Miya and Niranjana Anoop also play important roles in the film.
