But Boban Samuel's latest Malayalam flick Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum is not just a love saga: it's a jolly good ride, with a pinch of love.
Although the romantic entertainer revolves around a funny love triangle plot, the movie has a streak of suspense right from the opening scene to the very end and manages to maintain a curiosity level throughout.
The movie is a jolly good rideJiya, played by Amala Paul, suffers from a short term memory loss after an accident. Although Jiya's marriage is fixed with Major Ravi (Aju Varghese), she has flashes of memory that she had been in a relationship with a certain Mr. P. However, she doesn't know who this mysterious guy is. So, the task of finding Mr. P is entrusted with Mathews ( Sooraj Venjaramood). But making his job easier and difficult at the same time, two people come into the scene, claiming to be Jiya's boyfriend. Confused? Well, the crux of the story is this confusion. Let me not spoil your movie experience by delving into the details.
Kunchacko Boban played Pranav while Amala Paul as JiyaMuch like 'Romans', Boban Samuel has managed to keep alive a liberal dose of humour even when the film gets serious. The movie moves at a fast pace and situations develop every now and then. The credit goes to scriptwriter Y.V. Rajesh, who has aptly mixed tidbits from different movies (including Titanic, Thalapathy, Drisyam and Innale and Ennu Ninte Moideen) to deliver a wholesome entertainer.
Coming to performances, Amala Paul is at her beautiful best as the bubbly and chirpy Jiya. Kunchacko Boban is the perfect boy-next-door and emotes well too. After receiving the State and National Award, Jayasurya scores again; this time for his comic timing. Having said that, till the first half, it's actually Aju Varghese and Sooraj Venjaramood who carry the movie on their shoulders.
Amala Paul and JayasuryaThere were only two songs in the movie but that seemed enough. Lijo Paul's editing and cinematography by Anishlal R.S. on the locals of Wayanad were also perfect enough.
In all fairness, this one is a decent entertainer for those who are in the cinema hall just to laugh their hearts out.
Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum gives you exactly what you want this festive season - loads of fun, along with the rightful amount of suspense and romance.
