Dreaming is all about understanding the journey of the soul. If dreaming is for living in the world, soul reminds us of the purpose of life. And thus, we realize our mission in this world. There's a particular dialogue in the movie where the cop played by Dileesh Pothen is asked whom he lives for and prompt comes the reply that he lives for his family. And another character close to the protagonist of the movie says, 'Aby lives to fly.'
After his last directorial Jacobinte Swargarajyam, which was a box office smash, Vineeth Sreenivasan ventured into production for his assistant's movie, Aanandam. And now, Mollywood’s very own all-rounder is back to the big screen with his latest movie Aby. If we saw Vineeth’s au naturel acting in Chappa Kurishu, Kunjiramayanam and Oru Vadakkan Selfie, his latest movie in and as Aby has the actor in a whole new avatar.
Aby is not the regular guy that we get to see everyday but he is a special child born to Babychayan (Sudheer Karamana) and Clara (Vinitha Koshy) who dreams of touching the sky. Like little kids, he too is captivated by birds and its wings flapping high up in the clouds. As he grows up, people around him think it's just another crazy boy's crazy dream. Ask him what his dreams are, he points two - one to fly and another to marry his girl Animol (Mareena Michael). But making one's dreams come true is not an easy task. Much like the trailer, the movie rightly meets our expectations.
Srikanth Murali’s Aby does not focus on how his protagonist manages to make an aircraft rather it takes a look at various facets of life like being honest, coming out of the comfort zone and having a determination to succeed, no matter how many times you fail. The plot as such is not novel but it is the narration and the treatment which needs applauds.
The film is technically sound. The story and screenplay by Santhosh Echikkanam is as natural as it could be. Sudheer Surendran's cinematography brilliantly captures the scenic beauty of Idukki. The songs composed by Bijibal and Jaison J Nair and background music by Anil Johnson go with the flow.
Coming to the performances, child artiste Vasudev takes the cake. His expressions and subtle acting create a deep impression on viewers. A special mention for Sudheer Karamana who portrays the role of an arrogant yet loving father. It was interesting to see Vineeth Sreenivasan focusing more on acting this time with very few dialogues. His expressions and body language speak volumes of what the character feels in a particular situation. While Aju Varghese brings in some humorous moments, Mareena Michel, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Bollywood actor Manish Choudhary have done justice to their roles.
In his first directorial venture as a filmmaker, Srikanth aptly portrays various emotions – the innocence, the love, the family bonding, the failure, and achievements. With a simple plot, Aby is a movie that can be enjoyed by all age groups.
The feel-good motivational drama, Aby, made with some genuine intentions is a darling film.
