A documentary film about the musical journey of legendary Carnatic vocalist Parassala Ponnammal was released at the Semmankudi Hall at Bharat Bhavan by veteran singer KS Chitra.
The film explores the unknown terrains in the musically blessed life of Ponnammal who is considered as one of the most learned and experienced singers in the Carnatic school of music.
The film, aptly named ‘Ee Jeevithathinte Peru Sangeetham’ (Music is the name of this life) documents some of the most significant events in the life and career of Parassala Ponnammal which spans more than eight decades.
It is for the first time that the life of this legendary singer, whom the nation has honored with a Padmasree award, is being projected on screen. Popular play back singers KS Chitra and Dr. Arundhati jointly released ‘Ee Jeevithathinte Peru Sangeetham.’
The documentary also features testimonials by eminent musicians about Parassala Ponnammal who is credited as the first woman to perform a concert at the Kottakakam Navarathri Mandapam at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram. The documentary is produced by R Parvathi Devi.
