A house in picturesque Nedumkandam is a luxury. Modern and contemporary, the 3,500 sq ft structure on 24 cents of land is a sight to behold, set amidst nature, away from the hustle of the city.
When Santhosh Narayanan stood on his empty plot and visualized how his home should look, he had his focus on the free flow of air and bounteous sunshine inside all his rooms. The elevation and the interiors have been built to suit this specific need.

As the land lay much below road level, it had to be filled and raised to meet the road. The elevation in white and grey is elegant when set against the green around. Cladding stones on several parts of the exterior give it an urban chic. The louvers also add to the exterior looks.
The compound wall is built to look like an extension of the house. The compound wall is built to look like an extension of the house. The gate has been designed with louvers on steel frames. The natural stone paving, which leads up to the car porch looks arresting and matches the color tones of the house. The landscaping too sets the mood of the residence. They are in total sync with the structural design. The outer walls of the car porch have grey stone claddings to give it completeness. The entry is from the porch to the sit-out and then to the interiors.
The highlight of the interiors is the courtyard in double height, with cladding tiles on the walls. The pebbles spread on the floor and the custom-made furniture make the space attractive. The leather fabric sofa made to match the color tones of the interior add to the overall style and looks of the formal living room. The floors have been laid with vitrified tiles. The hanging lamps and other curios, which decorate the place have been sourced from abroad.
A show-piece shelf separates the living section from the dining area. The tiny LED strips within acrylic boxes built inside the shelf brighten it up. There are curios aplenty on the shelf. The warm tone lights inside match the color on the walls. The lights inside the gypsum-veneer-plywood fold ceilings emit rich tones.
A family-living space has been provided beside the dining room. A rug marks out the separation between both the areas. The six-seater dining table though simple, is extremely elegant. The dining area has a crockery shelf. A wash area and toilet sit just next to it. The 'jali' work on the partition above is an attractive feature.
The staircase leads up to a wide and expansive hall. The floor up has glass instead of claddings to give it a rich tone. Apart from this, it brings in the sun in all its glory. The place is always bathed in sunshine. The TV unit here has been set inside a wood-paneled wall. A hexagon-shaped bookshelf in plywood lamination set on another wall is quite an attractive feature. The sitting space up can double up either as a reading room or a family living space.
There are five bedrooms, two down and three up. All the bedrooms have the luxury of wardrobes and attached bathrooms. You see wallpapers on all walls to match the theme of each room. The blinds match the color tones of the interiors.
