Kochi: A trip to the Himalayas on Bullet motorcycles is a challenge for any two-wheeler rider. Two young women from Kerala, Anfy Mariya Baby of Muringoor and T M Anagha from Chalakkudy, took up the daring task successfully, winning accolades.
The feat was also a fitting reply to sceptics who scoffed at the prospects of “two girls on Bullets” attempting such a Herculean task.
Anfy and Anagha, both 18-year-olds, had dreamed of riding Bullets to the Himalayas while doing their Plus-Two course. Though initially their parents were not willing, the girls finally received the consent and set out on the trip.
Their trip started from Delhi on June 2. A cameraman accompanied them in another vehicle. “We needed to show proof to people who were doubtful whether we would actually travel to the Himalayas,” the young women told reporters at the Press Club here. They also had to face much trolls on the social media before the trip and were happy that they overcame such criticism also.
Anfy and Anagha covered 7,000 km in 16 days. Their trip was intended to spread the message of women’s safety. “The ride was very tough. At many places, water from melting ice made riding difficult. The temperature was so low that we could hardly breathe. On several occasions, we fell from our bikes while negotiating the uneven terrain. Total strangers who came to our aid,” they said.
According to the young women, they also wanted to prove that a Himalayan trip was not an impossible task. “If our trip inspires at least one person, that would be our biggest reward,” they added.
Anfy, daughter of Baby and Mini residing at Eluvathingal House, Attapadam, Muringoor, is a BBA Aviation Management student in Coimbatore. Anagha, a graphic design student, is the daughter of Thozhuthuparambil Manikkuttan and Sajitha of Chalakkudy.
