Representational imageThiruvananthapuram: Self-financing colleges in Kerala will have a uniform fee level. The justice Narendra Babu committee has issued orders setting Rs 14 lakh as fee for post-graduate clinical courses in all colleges under the self-financing college managements' association.
The changes have been brought as the government is directly admitting students in all medical seats in the state. The association sought a Rs 30 lakh fee level in a discussion it had with the health minister the other day. It was ready to reduce it to Rs 25 lakh, but a consensus could not be reached at the meeting.
The government then authorized the Rajendra Babu panel to decide on the fees. But in between, the Kerala Christian Professional College Managements Federation held talks with the chief minister and the health minister and reached an agreement.
The new fees will be applicable to nearly seven colleges under the self-financing medical college managements association. The Rajendra Babu panel's order is temporary. Fees could be revised if necessary, once accounts of these colleges are reviewed.
Last year the fees for 50 percent government seats was Rs 6.5 lakh. For management seats it was Rs 17.5 lakh. The fees for 15 percent NRI seats will continue to remain at Rs 35 lakh. For clinical PG diploma courses the fees will be 75 percent of that of degree courses. For non-clinical PG degree courses the fee is Rs 8.5 lakh.
