SC allows spot admission to self-financing colleges after second counseling Representative image

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has allowed the Kerala government to conduct another round of counseling this month itself for admission to self-financing medical colleges in the state. A bench headed by Justice Deepak Mishra also permitted spot admission if vacancies exist after the second counseling.

Those seeking could not attend the first counseling in self-financing colleges as uncertainties remained on the fee structure. The government approached the apex court pointing out that the students could therefore sit for only one counseling session.

HC warns of contempt if orders are ignored

The Kerala High Court has warned the state government and the Commisioner of Examinations of contempt proceedings if they ignore court orders on admission to self-financing medical colleges.

The court wondered why the state government was insensitive to the anxieties of the students and their parents. “On whose side are the government and the commissioner?” court asked.

“The commissioner's decisions are not supportive when the court finds a way to facilitate admissions. If orders are ignored, the court will be forced to proceed with contempt action,” it said.
