Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has removed Adv. Harris Beeran, who represented state police chief T. P. Senkumar in the Supreme Court recently, from the post of government pleader appearing for cases involving the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
The decision was taken as per the directions of the chief minister, it is learnt. An order to remove Adv. John Mathew, the government-appointed standing counsel in the High Court, was also issued following major setbacks in as many as 13 cases in a span of three months.
Adv. Harris Beeran had been handling cases involving the transport utility in the Supreme Court for over a decade. The senior lawyer became undesirable after he appeared for Senkumar in the apex court against the latter’s ‘arbitrary’ removal as DGP and obtained a favorable order, serving a body blow to Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government.
The order of his removal has been forwarded to the managing director of KSRTC. Senior advocate V. Giri has been named as his replacement.
Meanwhile, the KSRTC MD issued an order to bring drivers and conductors attached to ordinary services with revenues less than Rs 7,000 per day under the ‘single duty’ system. Employees who work for more than six-and-a-half hours will be paid accordingly for the additional hours put in.
To retain the existing ordinary services that make revenues less than Rs 7,000, the double duty pattern needs be introduced, the order added.
