Kochi: The Kerala police have reasons to believe that actor Dileep hired Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni to attack an actress and videotape her torment as early as March 2013. What they want to know is who recommended the criminal for the job.
Dileep did not know of Suni before 2012, when he was introduced as another actor’s driver. Whoever recommended Suni had full knowledge of his antecedents. The criminal had already kidnapped another actress and plotted at least three abductions even as he freely mingled in the cinema crowd.
The police have zeroed in on a senior actor who aggressively defended Dileep during a meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) before the arrest on Monday. Dileep had spoken to the actor four times on the night when the actress was waylaid and tortured inside her car.
In fact, Dileep only answered the actor’s calls that night, while being incommunicado for the others including producer Anto Joseph. This leads the police to think that the other actor might have had a clear knowledge about the plan to attack the actress. The investigators will interrogate the actor with evidence to establish the communication between him and Dileep before and after the attack.
Dileep and some other actors entertained Suni despite his shady reputation. Suni was already wanted by the police in a case of pepper-spraying a bus passenger near Kottayam and robbing him of Rs 4 lakh. Dileep had also used the thug to get the job done on some of his realty deals.
The police have found that many of the actors withheld information about the nexus between Dileep and Suni though an actress had tipped them off.
