Thiruvananthapuram: Kovalam MLA M. Vincent, arrested in the case related to the rape of a 51-year-old woman in his neighborhood, has been removed from all party posts including that of the KPCC secretary. The measure will continue till the legislator is exonerated of the charges by the court. But Vincent will not be resigning the MLA's post and he won't be stripped of the primary party membership as well, KPCC president M.M. Hassan, said at a press meet here on Sunday.
Hassan said that Vincent will be provided with all the support and alleged that there was a conspiracy behind the MLA's arrest. "(The) CPM leaders have a role in the conspiracy. Neyyattinkara MLA and some local CPM leaders are behind the plot," he said and added that along with the complaint of the woman, the conspiracy too should be brought under the ambit of the probe.
Vincent was arrested Saturday and was later remanded into judicial custody.
Vincent's wife alleges conspiracy
Subha, Vincent's wife, also alleged conspiracy behind the arrest of her husband. "An MLA and some local CPM leaders have played a part in the conspiracy. There has been no action even after lodging a complaint with the DGP. The complainant had called on Vincent's phone as well as mine. She had said that she would commit suicide over some family issues. I stand by Vincent and firmly believe that truth will prevail," Subha told Manorama News.
Sonia should intervene: Kodiyeri
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishan said Congress president Sonia Gandhi should intervene in the case and force Vincent to resign his MLA's post. Kodiyeri added that there was nothing unusual in his arrest and it was not politically motivated.
