Kavya Madhavan says she does not know Puslar Suni, but police not convinced Kavya Madhavan

Kochi: Post the interrogation at home, the police team probing the actress assault case seem to be in no mood to buy actress Kavya Madhavan's assertion that she had never known the main accused, Sunil Kumar, aka, Pulsar Suni.

The police, remaining unconvinced of her responses, said that there was evidence to prove Suni's presence on the sets of a Dileep-Kavya starrer which was shot at Thevelakkara, Kollam. Kavya had reportedly traveled in a vehicle driven by Suni.

The actress, wife of accused actor Dileep – who is currently under police custody, will be questioned again.

Kavya and her mother Shyamala were interrogated on Tuesday by a team led by A DGP B. Sandhya.

Kavya and Shyamala adopted a similar disposition as Dileep did in the early stages of the investigation, holding their ground reiterating that the actor had no role at all in the crime.

Suni had told the police that he deposited the memory card containing the visuals of the attack on the young actress at the office of Lakshya, Kavya's textile shop. The police had conducted searches at the shop but were not able to retrieve the card.

The omnipresent 'madam'

The police have also arrived at a crucial turn in the search for a 'madam' who looms large in statements made by the accused since the day after the February 17 crime. They had told police that the 'madam,' who lives in a residential complex in the city, had been issuing instructions for the assault on the actress.

However, the police said they do not have any evidence on whether Kavya or her mother played any role in the crime. Two women linked to the film industry are also under police surveillance.

It is understood that in the hours-long interrogation, the police mainly sought details from Kavya about the memory card, and also the cellphone used to shoot it.

Actor Dileep was arrested by the police on July 10 for hiring goons to abduct the actress and videotape the assault. The police had arrested Pulsar Suni, who had worked as a driver of many film personalities, six days after the incident. A letter which Pulsar Suni purportedly wrote to actor Dileep had caused a furore. He had also mentioned 'the shop in Kakkanad' in a letter from jail. This reference prompted the police to zoom in on Kavya.

Dileep had undergone a marathon 13-hour grilling at the Aluva police club days ahead of his arrest. The actor had approached the police saying that the prime accused tried to blackmail him from jail. Things went awry for Dileep after the police found discrepancies in his statements. He has been remanded in custody till August 8.
