Kozhikode: Six people including three children were on Saturday killed and more than 14 injured after a jeep collided with a bus while trying to overtake a car on the national highway near Thamarassery town here, the police said.

All the six who died were traveling in the jeep while the injured were bus passengers.

Five of the deceased belonged to one family.

The deceased have been identified as Abdurahiman,63, of Vadakkekkara veed, Koduvally; his wife Subaida, 57; grandchildren Muhammed Nishan, 8; Hanah Fatima, 11; and one-year-old Jeza. Pramod, hailing from Vaduvanchal, who rode the jeep driver was also killed in the accident.

Four of the injured are in a critical condition, the police said. The accident occurred around 3 pm on the Kozhikode-Mysore national highway when the jeep collided head-on with the bus plying in the opposite direction from Kozhikode to Sultan Bathery in Wayanad district, the police said.

The injured have been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, they said.
