Kochi: NCP leader Uzhavoor Vijayan, who passed away last month, suffered severe mental trauma due to the squabbles in the party, a close aide of the deceased leader has said.
Some leaders wanted to remove Uzhavoor Vijayan from the post of NCP's state president, alleged Satheesh Kallakkode, a party leader who was a close confidante of Vijayan.
The opposition from within the party left Vijayan heartbroken, he accused. "The factional rivalry didn’t even spare Vijayan's family and the relentless attack affected him physically too," Satheesh added.
"Senior NCP leader Sulfikar Mayoori called Vijayan over the phone and confronted him last month. Vijayan apparently could not take the verbal assault and he swooned hardly before he hung up the phone. And I took him to the hospital," Satheesh claimed.
"Vijayan even told Sulfikar once that he was a heart patient and if anything untoward happened to him, it would be because of him. The problems in the NCP shattered Vijayan mentally and deteriorated his health," Satheesh said.
Meanwhile, minister Thomas Chandy slammed Satheesh Kallakkode and said proper action would be take against him for making such a defaming allegation against the party. "Sufikar is not a person who would insult Uzhavoor," said the minister.
