Kochi: Ferocious tigers and beautiful damsels ruled the day in Tripunithura as the famed Athachamayam procession was held in the town on Atham day that marks the beginning of the harvest festival, Onam.

More than 60 tableaus were on display and 1,000 artists took part in the event inaugurated by tourism and devasom minister Kadakampally Surendran.

Thousands flocked to Tripunithura to witness the procession. King Maveli led the procession, followed by Gandhiji and Vivekananda. The themed procession even included Narendra Modi and Baahubali. They matched their steps to the beats of panchavadhyam, and melams.

Popular Malayalam and Tamil actor Raveendran, a regular face during the Atham Day, said: "Irrespective of where I am, on this day, I come here to basically re-live. It's a fabulous experience.”
