Thiruvananthapuram: The management and employees of a plastics manufacturing firm in Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram were a bit apprehensive on Friday as news of the London tube blast started coming in.
In June 2005, after a similar blast in London, Family Plastics and Thermoware Pvt Ltd. managing director Simson A. Fernandez received a call from Scotland Yard. The investigators had found the label, Delta 6250, from the plastic shreds at the blast site. Further, they also stumbled upon the label, 'Family Containers Delta Superior Quality.' This gave investigators the lead to the Manvila-based company.
The caller sought to know more details of the 6.5-liter plastic jar, branded 'Delta 6250' used in the blast. The details of the company's distributor in the UK were also noted. After this, the officers told Simson that the terrorists had used the plastic jars made at the company as a container to stuff explosives used in the blast.
[In 2005, 52 people were killed when four British terrorists carried out suicide bomb attacks on three London underground trains and a bus. This year, Britain has suffered four attacks that killed a total of 36 people].
Family Plastics general manager Omanakuttan Nair said the reports that plastic jars had been used brought back memories of the 2005 blast and the subsequent police inquiries. He said they were relieved that it was not so this time.
