Kasaragod: The scholar in Binesh Balan, a tribal youth from Kasaragod, is fulfilling another dream. Binesh, who crossed several hurdles and reached London for his higher studies, is now marking a new milestone with a chance to present a thesis at Oxford University.

Binesh's research subject was chosen for an Oxford symposium scheduled for December. He will present a comparative study of Lord Krishna and Apollo from the Greek mythology. Binesh is pursuing his MSc in social anthropology at Sussex University, London.

Binesh, had earlier hit the headlines when he waged a protracted fight to claim his opportunity to study abroad. Strangling in red tape, the bureaucracy at the state secretariat had tied down his higher education dreams for nearly two-and-a half years.

His battle, which had solid media support, finally bore fruition when he obtained the central government's national overseas scholarship for students of backward communities and flew to London.

Binesh is the son of Balan and Girija of Pathinettam Mile, Kolichal, Kasargod.
