Fujairah Malayalis mourn victims of Bengaluru car accident Joel Jacob, Nikhit Job Sudeep, Rebecca Thomas and Jeena Eldho died when the car they were traveling was rammed by a Mysuru-bound truck on the highway

Dubai: The road accident that claimed the lives of four youngsters on the Bengaluru-Mysuru road has cast a pall of gloom over the Malayali diaspora in Fujairah. The four students spent their school days in the emirate before chasing their dreams. They had caught up in India for an outing when the tragedy struck.

Joel Jacob, Nikhit Job Sudeep, Rebecca Thomas and Jeena Eldho died when the car they were traveling was rammed by a Mysuru-bound truck on the highway. The driver of the Haryana-registered truck fled the scene.

The four friends were on their way to Vellore in Tamil Nadu to attend the convocation ceremony of Rebecca and Jeena at the Vellore Institute of Technology. The girls were pursuing BBA degrees after completing their school education in Fujairah. Rebecca was the daughter of Monica and Daniel Thomas, who works with Emirates in Dubai.

Jeena was supposed to fly to London a week later for higher studies. She is the daughter of Juno and Eldho, an officer with the Etisalat. Her sisters live in Canada and London.

Joel Jacob, who was at the wheel at the time of the accident, was the son of Jacob M Thomas, who runs a transport company in Fujairah, and Solly, a nurse. He had joined a medical college in Bengaluru after completing his school in the St Mary’s School in Fujairah. He was with his parents in Fujairah until two weeks ago. The family was in Kerala in August for the wedding of Joel’s sister.

Nikhit Job’s father Sudeep is a businessman in Fujairah. Originally from Pathanamthitta, the family had shifted their home base to Kochi three years ago. His sister, Nikhita, is a software engineer in Bengaluru.

The four students were active members of the Indian Club. The club canceled its Navaratri celebrations on Friday as soon as the tragic news broke.

The Ramanagara police in Karnataka have registered a case into the accident.
