And when you are shown beautifully made clothes, you are never going to believe that they were made by women inmates.
Now you cannot only admire the beauty of such clothes but also buy them.
Clothes made by inmates of the women's jail in Kannur have hit the market. An exhibition-cum-sale of their products was recently inaugurated by DGP (prisons) R. Sreelekha.
Inmates who have received training in tailoring and fashion designing are making the clothes for women and children.
About 12 inmates of the jail were recently given training in fashion designing, embroidery, tailoring, and textile printing.
The clothes are made at the jail's tailoring unit.
Jail authorities are now trying to market these clothes at Freedom Experience, outlets which sell clothes made by prisoners of central jails.
The DGP also distributed certificates to those who completed their training. North Zone DIG Sam Thankkayyan presided over the function.
Those who spoke at the function included jail superintendent N.S. Nirmalanandan, regional welfare officer K.V. Mukesh, Kerala Jail Executive Officers Association’s state secretary T.K. Janardhanan, Kerala Jail Subordinate Staff Association state president P.T. Santhosh, women's jail superintendent P. Sakunthala, and welfare officer Mansy P. Pareeth.
